Pete La Roca – "Turkish Women At the Bath" (32052) One of the most dynamic drummers from the New York Jazz scene – Pete La Roca made his name as a sideman with such artists as Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane. This superb album was originally recorded in 1967. This album is a neglected classic, engineered and produced more like a rock album and was originally released under the name of Chick Corea by Muse. This lineup includes Walter Booker on Bass, John Gilmore on Tenor Sax and Chick Corea on piano. The resulting blend of such dynamic Jazz styles results in a sound that is years ahead of its time. A must have in any Jazz/Rock collection.
Roy Ayers- "Stoned Soul Picnic" (604123215824) Roy Ayers started his career as one of the most visible and winning jazz vibraphonists of the 60s, becoming an R&B band leader in the 70’s and 80’ with a distinctive Funk style. His move into the realms of Acid Jazz has reached almost cult status with the younger Jazz enthusiasts of today. This Album is an excellent example of the early influences on the modern Acid Jazz movement of today. The album is a bright and happy example of a musician who was ahead of his time. For those looking for a fresh approach to melody with a distinctive beat – look no further. Roy Ayers – "Stoned Soul Picnic" is the album for you. |
